Below is an overview of the key points in regard to the Laws of Powerchair Hockey:
The Court
- Official Playing Area Dimensions
- The game is played indoors on a Basketball court.
- The surface of the court must be hard, smooth and level. (Usually wood or artificial material).
Equipment
- Powerchair Hockey has to be played in a powerchair.
- Players must use a sanctioned t-stick or hand-held stick. while playing in competition. Official dimensons can be found here: T-Stick and Hand-held stick
- T-Sticks are mounted onto the footplate of the athlete’s powerchair. Athlete’s use their powerchairs to control the ball.
- Athletes that can hold a stick use light-weight sticks that are generally used in Floorball.
The Ball
- A light-weight floorball is used.
Goals
- The goalposts are 2.5m wide.
- A goal is scored when the whole ball crosses the goal line between the two goalposts.
Number of Players
- A team consists of up to 10 players.
- 5 players are on the court at any time.
- One player is a goalkeeper.
- There are unlimited substitutes.
Match Duration
- A match is 40 minutes long.
- This is played in two 20 minute halves.
Penalty
- Usually awarded for fouls such as heavy contact or ramming an opponent.
- The penalty starts from the centre-line where the ball must keep moving forward this is similar to Ice Hockey penalties.
